Open Book
I decided to check out the local center for readers/writers/book artists called Open Book. Inside, they have a bookstore, a small press, a couple of different libraries, a gallery space, a gift shop, a cafe, a bookbinding/papermaking studio, and function rooms for classes, readings, and speakers.
I was going to hear an author and his editor in conversation about the editing process from a Big-5 publishing perspective, but i also wandered through all the rest of the building to check out the other things there beforehand.

From the printing/binding studio: a guillotine (for paper), two book presses, and type set for a poster to be printed.
A Death Star from Star Wars, made out of books.
There was an exhibit/reading room focusing on the zine as a medium of publication. I could have spent days in here.
Posters on the walls (above and below).
This is a picture of the coffee shop at the end of my street. I think i'm going to be spending a lot of time there!
Have i mentioned the Little Free Libraries in an earlier post? I can't remember. Regardless, they are ALL OVER Minneapolis, which is awesome because I can always find something to read for free! Here are some pictures of what they look like. Anyone can make one and maintain it, which explains why they all look so different.
An alleyway in Uptown which a Thai restaurant has taken over and turned into outdoor dining space. This reminds me so much of little cafe spaces in San Miguel...
This is a sculpture in the MoZaic Art Garden, also in Uptown.
